Unstandardized Choropleth

source: http://vin25maps.blogspot.com/2009/04/unstandardized-choropleth-maps.html

Un-Standardized Choropleth maps display generalized information that convey basic concepts. The classes have no values attributed to them so there is no telling the difference in degree (only relatively speaking). In the example map above, all the reader is able to gather is that within a few generalized areas in South America, there are languages that are varying in their degree of threat of extinction. There is no telling what these languages are or what parameters explain threat based solely on this map but oh well, it looks good.
